“Suppress conservative speech”: Trump admin eyes NewsGuard as next biased media accusation

In 2018, American lawyer, Steven Brill, and ex-WSJ publisher, L. Gordon Crovitz, teamed up to act as co-CEOs at NewsGuard Technologies — think of it like a tool to combat misinformation. Problem is, it’s not conservative enough, at least to the liking of the Trump administration.

NewsGuard has let a kerfuffle between the FTC and itself bleed into the legal system as they lob a suit in the District of Columbia at both the FTC and Chairman Andrew Ferguson. The browser extension maker is being accused of trying to “suppress conservative speech.”

Despite being a normally under-the-radar part of the government, this term has seen a lot of push against Trump’s influential media opponents ranging from media organizations like Associated Press and The Wall Street Journal to comedians like Jimmy Kimmel.
